3 Pieces of Advice for Wording an Engraved Plaque

Not only is an engraved plaque a wonderful tool in recognizing a person in front of a team or group of people, but it is also a great keepsake for a person to look back on and remember their accomplishments. If you are ordering a plaque to present to your boss, teammate, coach, student, or any other accomplished individual, the last thing you want to do is word the engraved phrases poorly. Take a look at these tips to conjure up the most optimal wording!

  1. Show that you have put in the effort.

You want the plaque’s engraving to truly communicate whatever it is you are trying to commemorate. Put some thought into this. Also, consider why the accomplishment matters to the recipient. The effort that you put into pondering the best way to communicate the message of the award will surely show through.

  1. Don’t overcomplicate it.

Keep your wording simple. You do not need to use extra formal, flowery words. In fact, if you do, the phrasing may end up sounding insincere and possibly even confusing. The wording needs to have a balance between sounding well-planned and thoroughly thought out, yet still very genuine and personal. Not getting too complicated with the wording will help accomplish this.

  1. Stay Relevant

You want the plaque to commemorate a specific accomplishment. Do not get too generalized with your words. For example, if you recognize an employee for being excellent at what they do, that’s great! However, do not simply put “In Recognition of Excellence” on the plaque… excellence in what?? This is where the deeper thought comes in. Really ponder what this employee does that makes him/her so excellent. You can then make the plaque much more specific and significant to the recipient.

Whatever it is you need to order a plaque for, whether it is an organized banquet, or you simply want to present an out-of-the-blue employee recognition award, we hope these tips will help you come up with the most optimal wording.

Oh, and one more piece of advice… remember to proofread, proofread, and proofread again!
